Black Bear vs Grizzly Bear

In the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem the task of identifying a black bear or grizzly bear is not always an easy one. Identifying the species of bear that you face in both backcountry and front country situations is an extremely useful tool that some professionals still have not mastered. As a wildlife photographer and a bear technician I have worked to become an expert at bear identification. I am not only successful at distinguishing between species, I am also able to consistently identify individual grizzly bears in a working environment. This page is designed to help you do the same.
